Update your site, without making a mess!

Keeping your content fresh is also helpful for search engines. One way to do this is to publish regular blog posts, adding a blog excerpt to the home page. Embed Facebook, Instagram and Twitter content so you only have to publish once.

Your pages need a heading (h1) tag and relevant content. Content should be in the form of paragraphs. While you can add key words and meta tags to your page, they need to accurately reflect what is also present on the page for better search engine results. Images can also show up in search results if they have a title and an alt tag. Images ideally are 200kb or less so that they load quickly.

Make sure your content looks good on a phone! The theme I use has an ability to re-order content on different devices. This is very handy for pages with text and galleries that might be two columns on a computer screen, but cascade into single columns on the phone. The text can appear before the imagery on mobile even if it is the reverse on a computer. Headings also should fit on a small screen. Make sure that the ‘responsive’ settings will change the size of headings so that the text is not cut off on smaller devices.
