“Let’s see what you’ve got!”
What makes a well-designed website?
aybe you’ve heard the expression “Content is King”. Relevant content will help you get discovered on search engines such as Google.
You need a clear, concise message that answers these questions within the first few seconds of visiting your site:
- What are you offering?
- How will it make my life better?
- How can I buy it?
Well-written content, suited to your users, will draw them in and keep them on your site.
Fresh, updated content, via a blog, is fodder to the search engine’s “spiders” that go out and index content.
I can help edit and organize your content (fancy word for that: Information Architecture) to best suit your audience while meeting the goals of your site. I will also spell-check and grammar check your writing.
usability, user interface and user experience.o you ever wonder why some sites are just more pleasant to visit than others? It has to do with
Usable means the text is readable, the navigation obvious; things look like what they are. A button-shaped object is a button. Navigation elements are large enough to click on when viewing on a cell phone. More about usability here.
User interface (UI) is considered when you think about who will be visiting your site, the most likely customer. Why are they visiting your site? What are they seeking? (Make it easy to find!) Will they be put off by bright colors?
User experience (UX) is the flow, the story-board, where you would like to direct attention and to what end. What action do you want them to take? If these facets are not readily apparent, your potential customer will go elsewhere. The most beautiful site in the world won’t convert a visitor into a customer if they can’t find what they are looking for.
elevant images can help your audience understand your business. In some cases a bit of stock photography can go a long way. For employee pictures, it’s best to hire a photographer. Bad pictures can give your site an unprofessional image.
While WordPress can resize your images, optimizing them with Photoshop to the size you want them to appear is going to keep your media files more organized and ensure they are consistent within your layout. Large images can slow down page load. If a page doesn’t load within 3 seconds, you can lose your audience. It’s possible to have large images that don’t hog bandwidth by saving them for web in Photoshop. Before you hire a web designer, ask them if they optimize images first using Photoshop.
