Clicking on image brings up the site on top of this page as a fully functioning site. All examples were designed and produced by myself in their entirety unless otherwise noted. Photos, images and most copy provided by the client.
Web site and online store for world renowned fly-fishing artist AD Maddox, known for her 'bug gutting' technique and brightly colored trout skin designs. This site is in its third iteration since 1998, most recently converted to Wordpress. Most of the maintenance happens in the Press section because she is constantly being published and her art applications are expanding. We decided to switch from Wordpress E-commerce to a paid system, Shopify, because her shop grew beyond the capabilities of Wordpress. I also put together a wiki page for AD. Figuring out how to make a Wiki page was unnecessarily confusing, but now that I've done it, the next one will go faster.
An educational videographer needed his site redesigned. I created an html site using the text and images he provided, and eventually converted it to a custom Wordpress site - as he wished to be able to show and update his videos from Vimeo on his site. The Wordpress Vimeo plug-in did not include the video description, but I was able to hack the code to get it to include the description on the site, which are shown or hidden with the click of a button. The videographer was very pleased with his site, and it was completed without ever meeting in person.
Mark Gamba is a Portland-area photographer who has done work for Carhart, and has been on the cover of National Geographic Adventure and Communication Arts. He specializes in difficult photos in outdoor settings and sports. He has photographed Kobe Bryant. Mark has an enormous collection and several portfolios of work. He wanted a slide show with navigation but not thumbnails, so I created squares to indicate where you were in the sequence using a Flash-based slide show.
Mark wanted his images to load quickly but also be large and also be difficult to download. This was not an easy task but it was accomplished.
Mark also wanted a log-in section, and I employed some help to get that functioning correctly with php code. Mark has a great sense of humor. On the home page, click to see what to expect if you violate his copyrighted image policy. (You may have to scroll to get to the link.)
Dana is a fine artist who works with oils. Her art is inspired by experience and surroundings. She does not own a computer and likely never will.
I used Wordpress to create the site. The galleries use the plug-in nggallery, which had to be modified to show the captions above the Shutter-style images. The content was organized by a mutual friend. The images needed a lot of processing. I created the home page as it seemed awkward to dive right into the art without an introduction.
A Seattle based wedding photographer needed a web site to showcase her talent. As a "cottage" photographer she specializes in unique photos of her clients' special day. I used a similar slide show approach that I'd created for Mark Gamba. Her site also shows the press and awards she's received.
I designed the site have a similar soft-paper quality you might see in a wedding album.
This Bay-area folk singer/song writer had very specific ideas for his web site, but was quite shy about making the site about himself. Luckily he had a publicist working with him to get it 'out there.' For the background image and general design he worked with a local artist, who provided photoshop docs to me as an outline for the site.
All the interactivity is handled using Flash. It was a fun challenge to get music to play on his site, both from album samples and a "radio" feature. There is also a page to sign up for a mailing list and a "street team." Although I did have the pleasure of meeting Zej, most of the work was communicated over the phone and email. He is able to update his shows via a text file that is pulled into Flash via xml.
The sculpture tour that was in place when I took over this project had been created with text as part of the jpg images. I typed out all the text into individual files that are now loaded using xml and Flash, as are the images. The gallery site design (header, footer and navigation) was already in place, so I added the sculpture part to it, as well as other galleries such northwest artists.
The content was provided via Word documents, and much attention had to be paid to get the correct copyright information with certain images.
The Wild Bunch Ranch is both a sanctuary for abandoned/injured wildlife and a training facility for northwest animals for use in movies. Jean trained the wolf in White Fang, and his partner says he feeds the bears better than what they eat themselves. The site has some Flash animation at the entry page but all the content is html and css.
I got the opportunity to visit the ranch and handle a bobcat.
Body Balancing Massage at South Wind Farm started out as a massage retreat for those with horses, including boarding and lodging, but the last revision focused more on the in-town spa, since the boarding and lodging was no longer being offered. But rather than getting a new domain, we reoraganized and edited the site to be inspired by South Wind Farm, since the inspiration for massage work started with horses. Site uses html and Flash.
Randall Zorn is a southern California artist who paints original oil and watercolor pieces. I created the banner using a photograph I'd taken in Australia at sunset, given that Randall is a very dedicated surfer it seemed appropriate. The galleries are displayed using Flash, site is based in html.
CZ and the Bon Vivants is a Bay area Cajun band who has published a CD and performs at the Ashkenaz in Oakland and various festivals. Animations and photogallery are in Flash. Gigs can be updated via text xml file.
